Introduction to itinerary and attractions

Route1

1

Day1

Himeji

Himeji Castle, also known as the “White Heron Castle” due to its brilliant white exterior, is widely regarded as Japan’s most spectacular and best-preserved feudal castle. Located in Hyogo Prefecture, it features a complex network of defensive walls, gates, and moats, all centered around a six-story wooden keep. Built in the early 17th century, the castle has survived wars, earthquakes, and fires, earning its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Treasure.

Kagawa

Kagawa Prefecture, nestled in northeastern Shikoku, is Japan’s smallest prefecture by area—but it’s big on flavor and charm. Known as the “Udon Prefecture,” it’s famous for Sanuki udon noodles, which attract food lovers from across the country. The region also boasts beautiful coastal scenery along the Seto Inland Sea, art-filled islands like Naoshima, and historic sites such as Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu.

Matsuyama

Dogo Onsen, located in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, is one of Japan’s oldest and most culturally significant hot springs, with a history stretching back over 3,000 years. The centerpiece of the area is the Dogo Onsen Honkan, a majestic three-story wooden bathhouse built in 1894, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Its elegant architecture inspired the bathhouse in Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.

Often called “Japan’s last clear stream,” the Shimanto River in Kochi Prefecture flows freely for 196 kilometers without any dams. Its pristine waters are perfect for canoeing, paddleboarding, and riverside cycling. The river is lined with charming villages and unique submersible bridges called chinkabashi, which are designed to withstand floods. It’s a haven for nature lovers and a symbol of sustainable living.

Day4

Ashizuri

Cape Ashizuri is the southernmost point of Shikoku, located in Kochi Prefecture. This dramatic headland offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and is known for its subtropical flora, rugged cliffs, and the iconic Ashizuri Lighthouse. Nearby, you’ll find Kongofukuji Temple, a stop on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and excellent spots for stargazing, hiking, and soaking in ocean-view hot springs.
